Engineering Manager
Role overview
You will build and lead the engineering team behind new online stock trading product, from zero to launch and beyond. This is a founding engineering leadership role on a greenfield product in a domain where correctness is not negotiable: orders, positions, and money must be right every time, under latency and market-hours pressure. You will hire the team, set the technical direction, and own delivery of a platform that handles real customer capital. What you'll do • Build and lead the trading engineering team from the ground up: hire, mentor, and grow engineers, and set the bar for a domain where a bug is a financial loss, not a ticket. • Own the technical strategy and architecture for the trading platform: order lifecycle and execution, market data ingestion and distribution, positions and portfolio, settlement and reconciliation. • Drive broker, exchange, and market data integrations, and the connectivity decisions that come with them. • Own reliability and correctness under market conditions: latency budgets, capacity for open and close and volatility spikes, idempotency, and reconciliation that proves the books are right. • Partner with product, compliance, risk, and finance so regulatory, KYC, AML, and audit requirements are designed in rather than retrofitted. • Establish the engineering practices this domain demands: rigorous testing, controlled release, incident response, and audit-grade observability across the order path.
Requirements What you'll bring • 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years leading engineering teams, including hiring and growing engineers. • Direct experience building or operating online stock trading, brokerage, or capital markets systems. This is a hard requirement: you have shipped order management, execution, market data, or settlement systems in production. • Working fluency in the domain: order types and lifecycle, market data feeds, clearing and settlement, corporate actions, and the reconciliation and audit expectations that come with regulated trading. • Strong hands-on technical judgment to lead architecture reviews and make correctness and latency tradeoffs. Comfortable in a TypeScript, Go, Postgres, and AWS/local private cloud hybrid environments. • Experience working alongside compliance and risk in a regulated financial product. • The judgment to move fast on a greenfield product without compromising the correctness and controls the domain requires. Nice to have • Experience launching a retail trading or investing product from zero. • Exposure to FIX protocol or exchange and broker connectivity. • MENA or emerging-market financial services experience, including market entry and local regulatory context.
Benefits • Immediate, large-scale impact on a high-growth business • Top-of-the-market compensation packages • Work alongside top regional talent, with team members from Talabat, Careem, Etisalat, and more
