Role Overview We are looking for experienced backend and infrastructure engineers to design sophisticated reinforcement-learning environments that test how AI systems handle distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, deployment, troubleshooting, security, scaling, and recovery . The work combines backend engineering, DevOps, cloud architecture, and systems reliability. No prior AI experience is required.
CONTRACT: Freelance contractor, paid per completed task COMMITMENT: Approximately 20 hours per week, subject to minimum weekly task submissions LOCATIONS: Fully remote - GLOBAL PROCESS: Application review, technical assessment, and onboarding HOURLY RATE: $50-$100/h
Responsibilities • Design realistic cloud and backend environments for evaluating complex AI-driven technical tasks. • Build reproducible scenarios involving distributed systems, networking, IAM, queues, persistent storage, and observability. • Create environments that test deployment, troubleshooting, scaling, security, and disaster-recovery workflows. • Develop deterministic validation tests and clear acceptance criteria. • Produce golden reference implementations and technically correct solution paths. • Create intentionally defective configurations and realistic failure scenarios. • Design scenarios involving rolling deployments, service failures, access-control problems, and recovery procedures. • Apply DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure-automation practices to environment development. • Document system architecture, operational flows, edge cases, and validation logic. • Collaborate with technical leads to refine technical specifications and evaluation quality.
Requirements • Strong professional experience in backend software engineering using Python, Go, Java, C++, Rust, JavaScript/TypeScript, or a comparable language. • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation . • Proven experience designing, operating, or troubleshooting distributed systems in production. • Strong understanding of networking, service communication, and production-system architecture. • Hands-on knowledge of IAM, authentication, authorization, and infrastructure security . • Experience with queues, asynchronous systems, databases, and durable storage. • Strong understanding of observability, deployment strategies, scalability, and disaster recovery. • Ability to design reproducible technical environments and validate expected system behavior.
