Role overview

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Junior Consultant – Cardiac Surgery to join our Government Healthcare Facility. The successful candidate will provide specialized surgical care to patients with cardiac and cardiothoracic conditions under the clinical framework of the Cardiac Surgery Department. The role involves assisting with and performing appropriate cardiac surgical procedures within the physician's approved scope of practice, participating in perioperative management, and collaborating closely with senior consultants, anesthesiologists, intensivists, cardiologists, and other multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong surgical skills, sound clinical judgment, commitment to patient safety, and the ability to work effectively in a high-acuity cardiac surgery environment. Key Responsibilities • Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with cardiac surgical conditions. • Participate in preoperative evaluation, surgical planning, operative procedures, and postoperative care. • Perform cardiac surgical procedures appropriate to the physician's training, experience, and approved scope of practice. • Assist senior consultants in complex and major cardiac surgical procedures. • Manage postoperative patients in collaboration with cardiac intensive care and multidisciplinary teams. • Monitor patients for postoperative complications and initiate appropriate interventions. • Participate in emergency cardiac surgical assessments and interventions as required. • Review and interpret relevant diagnostic investigations, including echocardiography, CT, cardiac catheterization, laboratory investigations, and other studies. • Maintain comprehensive and accurate clinical documentation. • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical case discussions, and treatment planning. • Provide appropriate communication and education to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment, procedures, risks, and expected outcomes. • Work closely with cardiologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, perfusionists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals. • Participate in departmental on-call duties and emergency services as required. • Contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement, research, and evidence-based practice. • Support the education and supervision of residents, interns, and junior clinical staff where appropriate. • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection-control standards, patient-safety requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations.

Requirements • MD, MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent Medical Degree from a recognized and accredited institution. • Completion of an accredited residency/specialist training program in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, or Cardiovascular Surgery . • Recognized postgraduate specialist qualification in the relevant surgical specialty. • AMERICAN BOARD doctors preferred.

Responsibilities
