Senior Backend Engineer

Purpose: To design, develop, and optimize complex backend systems and services, ensuring scalability, security, performance, and reliability while contributing to technical standards and engineering improvements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs in Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
• Own delivery of complex features end to end, from technical design through production.
• Design and optimize database interactions, integrations, and inter-service communication.
• Build and operate event-driven flows using Kafka and enterprise messaging.
• Ensure solutions meet security, performance, availability, and maintainability requirements.
• Apply secure coding practices for authentication, authorization, encryption, and sensitive data handling.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering standards across the squad.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement durable fixes.
• Contribute to technical design decisions and application architecture.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and observability on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Identify technical debt and drive improvements to design and code quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the chapter.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 4 years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong Java, Spring Boot, REST API design, SQL, and Git.
• Hands-on experience with containers, CI/CD, and distributed systems (Good to have)
• Payments or regulated financial services experience preferred (Good to have)
